Summary

Unit 16 is concerned with the applications of fibrous structures (including nonowovens) in the space and aerospace industries. These include soft space suits for astronauts, space shuttle components, aircraft seat cushions; fuselage, wings, skin of the aircraft, top and side tail units, fuselage panelling, leading edges on side rudders, engine paneling, jet engine vanes, radomes, rudder tip fairing; helicopter blades, outer skin and ballistic protection.
