Summary

Unit 6 deals with the transfer of moisture and heat in fibers and their assemblies. Properties such as absorption, desorption, adsorption and wettability of fibers are discussed, as well as phenomena of wicking in fiber assemblies. Also the specific heat of fibers, the thermal conductivity and the thermal resistance of fibers and their assemblies, are treated in this unit. Finally, fiber surface engineering, that is, the main existing techniques for modifying the surface properties of fibers, according to the conveniences for an application, while maintaining the fiber bulk properties unchanged.
