Summary

Unit 4 deals with the mechanical properties of fibers. It analyzes in detail the tensile properties of fibers, such as strength, stiffness and toughness, and interprets the results of tensile tests. The values of the properties of the most important fibers are presented, as well as the typical stress-strain curves for them. Then, it discusses the properties of fibers in bending, torsion and compression, and their implications on the applications of fibers.
